We will be visiting Charleston on the 17th and plan to see the H. L. Hunley on the 18th. Since that is located in North Charleston we are looking for a good place to have some fried shrimp and crab cakes for lunch in the area.
Any suggestions?
Looking for a good Seafood restaurant in North Charleston
No no - time your trip so you only go to the Hunley to see the Hunley. It is in an ULTRA-industrial area on the wrong side of the tracks. Have lunch in town please - I%26#39;d recommend the Hominy Grill since it%26#39;s relatively convenient. Be sure to get a mapquest of the area and don%26#39;t go exploring.

Thanks for letting me know about the downside of the area that the Hunley is located in, we%26#39;ll be very careful and go straight there.
The Hominy Grill hasn%26#39;t been receiving very good reviews lately so not sure about that either. We%26#39;ve eaten at Hanks Seafood in the evening and thought their seafood was fantastic, do you know if they%26#39;re open for lunch?
I%26#39;m not sure about Hanks, but have you been to Shem Creek yet? You might consider the Boulevard Diner for Shrimp and Grits or Crab - or...see the Hunley AFTER a great breakfast of Crab Cake Benedict at Boulevard diner (I%26#39;m guessing you can order it for lunch, too). Note that it%26#39;s closed on Sunday.
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I just noticed that you said you wanted to see the Hunley on the 18th and that%26#39;s WEDNESDAY - it%26#39;s not open to the public on weekdays as it%26#39;s a working laboratory and they only open on weekends. Sorry! Do you want other ideas of what to do or do you already have a back-up plan?
I%26#39;m sorry, forgot to mention that we%26#39;ll be there on April 17th and 18th so we will be there at the right time to see the Hunley, on our last visit a few years ago we were there during the week and were not able to see it then. Don%26#39;t plan to make that mistake again.
Will check out your tip on Shem Creek.
Oh good!
Shem Creek is awesome. Do go for Crab Cakes for breakfast, as mentioned, but go to Red%26#39;s for dinner and sunset (ultra-casual bar; buckets o%26#39;beer, a real ';institution'; around here) Boulevard Diner is about 15 seconds drive before Shem Creek.
Hank%26#39;s (our favorite seafood restaurant in Charleston) is open only for dinner. They start at 5:30 pm. I agree with the Shem Creek recommendation.
I wish I would have seen your post earlier. The Noisy Oyster is a great place to go for local fresh seafood in North Charleston.
