Moving to Hilton head

Hi. I am looking to move to hilton head island and not sure the best place to live on the island.

I normally stay off folly Field Rd, but people keep telling me that Forest Beach is the best place to be.

Does anyone know how the beach compares. I like the beach off folly field rd, but I love the night life also.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Moving to Hilton head

Hi, right back at u. Relocated to HHI in May. I had actually looked into living off Folly or Forest myself. However after talking with locals opted not due to many places are older %26amp; run down. I personally like Folly better due to cleaner sand.

Found a place to live through the island packet on line. Was able to negotiate the rent on a privately owned condo in a new developement off 278 %26amp; spanish wells called Summerfield. For the same money i have a beautiful condo with a garage. Community also has a pool %26amp; lagoon. I purchased a 2 yr islanders beach pass good for most all beaches for $30. It takes me approx 5 min to get to my new fav beach (besides the Seapine beach club) which is for islander only %26amp; is adjacent to the Westin resort which has live music %26amp; pool bar.

Palmetto Bay Marine Vilas are also nice %26amp; a short walk to Captain Woody%26#39;s for adult beverages %26amp; a meal. in a casual laid back setting. Since adjacent Iguana John%26#39;s opened there the crowd has picked up.

I have a friend that lived at Forest when first relocated %26amp; luved it. The 1st 6 months u%26#39;ll feel like a tourist so why not live like one. Either way where ever u live u can be anywhere on the island in less than 15min :)

Also recommend purchase EZ pass to save 1/2 on toll bridge %26amp; enable u to zip pass the booths.

Moving to Hilton head

Thanks for the help. I am looking now for a place trying to deceide on a 12 month lease or a 6 month lease.

I know this is going to be the place for me

Hello. We are thinking of moving to Hilton Head as well. How do you like living there?

My husband and I are empty nesters and he will have a job. I am involved in the arts...

We love the beach, restaurants, jazz , movies. How far to the airport? Do you get into Savannah much?

Any suggestions or thoughts ?

Thanks.

We moved here permanently 6 years ago. For the first year and a half lived in PD at our Condo at Captains Walk. We found it wasn%26#39;t worth it when you had new neighbors every week. Besides had trouble finding parking and a place at the pool during the season.

Like most of the locals we ended up buying a home in one of the gated communities. Homes on Hilton Head Plantation can be had for around $300K, and there are some villas for less. Besides HHP You can buy in Windmill Harbor, or Port Royal (behind the gate) for reasonable prices.

Upscale is Wexford, Long Cove,Leamington. Indigo Run, and the River Club.

Off Plantation are a number of nice developments off of Marshland Road, and Gumtree Roads. Another poster mentioned the area around Spanish Wells. It too is nice, though the waterfront properties are among the priciest on the island.

You will find it hard to rent long term on the island in most areas. The best place to get longer term rentals is actually Bluffton, just off Hilton Head.

If you are over 55, many of our friends have been happy in moving to Sun City or Hampton Hall. they have fabulous programs for active seniors.

As for Air Service, The Hilton Head Airport now has 2 carriers. US Air flys to Charlotte, and Delta returned to the Island this past Monday. They fly to Atlanta.

Air Fare from HH island Airport is a little more expensive than from Savannah. but parking is cheaper, and the time to the airport is much less than the 50 minute to an hour drive to Savannah.

Thanks for your great response. A few more questions please.

What do younger empty nesters not quite retired do for fun?

What is considered to be ';season'; in Hilton Head? Can you get into restaurants at that time?

Are there any good websites that give us a view of cultural life in Hilton Head?

Are there interesting day trips off island?

Is there a place for wine tasting/wineries and jazz music, artsy movies?

We are a small community but have plenty to do here.

The Tourists come from mid June to Mid August. Also Around Easter. The busiest week of the year is the week after the Masters when the Heritage is played here. Reservations are suggested at that time, or for holidays. Tourists usually congregate at south island restaurants, so it is easier to get into north island establishments. Bluffton restaurants are even easier.

There are a number.

Are there interesting day trips off island?

Of course. Beaufort, Savannah and Charleston are all suitable for day trips.

Is there a place for wine tasting/wineries and jazz music, artsy movies?

Winefest is this weekend. There is a Hilton Head Winery on the island, and a number of restaurants have special wine dinners and flight choices.

XO at the Hilton, The Jazz Corner, Shoreline Ballroom, and The Jazz Society has frequent concerts. We also have a symphony with frequent concerts.

Coligny Theatre has Art and special movies.
