I had originally intended to visit Savannah, but the airfares to Charleston are much cheaper than to Savannah and I had also wanted to spend some time in Charleston but due to time constraints had to cut it out of my itinerary.
Now that the fares are much cheaper to Charleston I think I will stay in Charleston, but I still would like to see some of Savannah.
The person I am travelling with is not comfortable with driving from Charleston to Savannah, even though I know it%26#39;s a short trip.
I thought of two options - one being take the Amtrak to Savannah to spend a couple days, or just an escorted day trip tour.
Are they are any reputable companies who conduct tours to Savannah? I have found one via Google, it is called Taylored Tours.
Tours to Savannah
I found the same one and it sounds reasonable. With the stop in Beaufort it probably only gives you about 4 to 4 1/2 hours in Savannah. If you are an early riser, the option of a train trip sounds better to me. You leave Charleston about 5 AM and get to Savannah before 7. You can catch a train back around 8 PM and be back in Chstn a little before 10. Once in Savannah you can hook up with one of the local tour companies and see whatever you want for the roughly 12 hours you are there.
I%26#39;m a big fan of Charleston and think you will find it extremely interesting and enjoyable. One could spend weeks there and not exhaust the opportunities to soak up the history, architecture and fine food. You seem to have a preference for Savannah. I would greatly appreciate your sharing what attracts you to Savannah so that I can consider that for my next trip there.

If you want an idea of what the road looks like between Charleston and Savannah, indeed you can drive the distance ';virtually';.
Just go to www.google.com, click on ';map';, type in an address along the way - one that works is 8540 Savannah Highway, Ravenel, SC
Then click on ';Street View'; and you can ';drive'; to Savannah from Charleston.
I plugged in my own house address and saw my neighbors walking their dogs online - preserved ';forever';.
Golfer4Life, I suppose if it appears that I have a preference for Savannah it%26#39;s only because I have wanted to visit for sometime, admittedly after I had read Midnight. It just seems like a very history rich and beautiful city. Although I am sure Charleston is just as beautiful and rich in history, so I am just as happy to visit Charleston.
I have booked my tickets to Charleston, and I don%26#39;t think I will end up going to Savannah from Charleston because I don%26#39;t have as much time as I think I did so I would rather get a good feel for Charleston. And there is always another opportunity!
