Golfmaster at Shipyard plantation

Two questions: We are considering renting a Golfmaster condo. Any feedback, reviews about that plantation and community? How far is that to the beach and other activities? How is the golfcourse in Shipyard? Also read in one of the forum posts that two golf courses in HHI closed recently. What is causing the golfing crisis? Thx

Golfmaster at Shipyard plantation

Golfmasters are older villas so just make sure you%26#39;ve seen what the inside looks like and that it has been updated or remodeled in the last 5 years or so. I%26#39;m guessing you%26#39;re attracted to them because of price. Here%26#39;s a map of Shipyard villas:

It%26#39;s quite a walk to the beach, so you%26#39;d want to take bikes or possibly drive and park at the beach pavilion if they allow that when going to the beach.

Shipyard is a quiet nice plantation, but has nothing going on inside other than the Crowne Plaza at the beach and of course has golf and tennis.

Golfmaster at Shipyard plantation

Just played at shipyard golf course 2 weeks ago. Had a great time. Course was in good condition considering it even poured rain the night before we played. Let me know if you need any other advice on golf courses. i%26#39;ve played a few.

We have not stayed at Golfmaster, but have stayed at Egret Point and the Cottages in Shipyard. We love Shipyard-it is a great place to walk and ride bikes.

It took us about 10-12 minutes to ride our bikes to the beach-it is a beautiful ride-look for the turtles across from the golf course-near the traffic circle on the way to the beach. As another poster stated you can also drive to the Shipyard Beach Club and park your car at the beach. We went in November and February so we didn%26#39;t have any trouble finding a parking space. If you go in the summer I am sure it will be much more crowded.

Hope you have a good time.

There are two Golfmasters, the original and Golfmaster II. The latter is only about 7 years old and is quite lovely. They are in the same ';complex'; with the older Golfmaster.

Golfmaster is one of the furthest villas from the Shipyard beach. Each unit in Shipyard is provided with one beach parking pass which must be used between Memorial Day and Labor Day (so only one car per unit can park at the beach at a time). During the summer season, there is a free shuttle cart that will take you to the beach between 9:00 and 4:00.

Shipyard Golf course is comprised of 3, 9 hole courses which are combined in different ways to make 18. The course is beautiful, well maintained and challenging (lots of sand and water). You also have great sitings of gators on the course (but stay away from them).

With regard to golf course closings, some courses close because they cannot stay financially viable. Off island (Bluffton) has built so many courses and golf housing communities in the past 8-10 years that all cannot stay competitive. The island has limited space, so, to my knowledge, there have not been any new courses built in that same time period.

travelplan: We stayed in Shipyard Plantation last Cnd March Break. We stayed at EGRET POINT. Gorgeous place. The outdoor pool is heated and has a hot tub. Everything is SO clean and well maintained. My sister and her husband stayed across the road at COTTAGES AT SHIPYARD. They are both owned by Spinnaker Resorts. If I were you, I%26#39;d try and get a deal off the internet and stay at Egret Point. We had free golf for up to four players daily included in the price. My husband and friends loved the Shipyard golf courses. You can also play at other courses for free. They also include two free bikes. We had a 3 bedroom/3 bathroom unit. I have done a review on this forum for Egret Point w/pics.

That map that another poster included is great. It shows all the rental places in Shipyard. Egret Point is on the left side of the map. It%26#39;s closer to Pope Avenue entrance. That%26#39;s how we biked to the beach, about 6 minutes. Very close to Coligny Plaza. Forest Beach is a great location.

Hope this helps,

D in Muskoka.

PS: I added that map link to my favourites because it is very handy! Thanks again.

no golf crisis here in HH - just rumor....shipyard had new greens and as good a shape as it has been in some time....

Luckytimer,

Where did you book your deal with free golf for everyday and bike rentals? Thanks!

Lud: check your private emails. I emailed you.

I think ';free'; golf via spinnaker requires you pay the cart fee....

My family has stayed in Shipyard for 3 straight years and we love it. We%26#39;ve stayed at Beachwalk (close to the beach), Evian (very nice), and are renting a house this year. The beach there is great this time of year -- not crowded at all. The Shipyard golf course is also very nice. The plantation is relatively quiet compared to the others....less traffic, great for biking/jogging/walking. We are going down there again in 3 weeks and cannot wait.
