Hilton Head day trips

We are going to stay in a time share on Hilton Head for a week at the end of May, first of June, but thought we might like to fly into either Savannah or Charleston a day or two ahead to see the sights. We%26#39;ve never been in the area at all. Would we be better to choose one over the other? Would one be better suited for a day trip from HH? Does anyone have an opinion based on experience?

I%26#39;ve never been to Savannah, although I plan to go there this summer while I%26#39;m at Hilton Head. I went to Charleston last summer. I loved Charleston. There is far too much to see to cover in one day. Some of the places we went:

Patriots Point

Fort Sumter

Market Street

White Point Gardens (the park at the battery)

the aquarium (not that impressive)

Magnolia Plantation

Boone Hall Plantation

Audobon Swamp Garden

Patriots Point and Magnolia Plantation were my personal favorites.
