Hello to anyone with info on best place to stay at hilton head On beach. WE have been to the Disney Resort in the past-and liked it very much-butnow that our kids are a bit older-dread being around a bunch of young kids. Would prefer something with a kitchen so we can cook breakfast/lunch and would like something a bit more upscale. Had considered Kiawah-but seems quite $$ to get a condo rental? Also thought about seabrook island? But wondered if it were still cool-(EASTER) would be bored on smaller islands?
hilton head vs. kiawah vs. seabrook oceanfrontThere are many places to stay on Hilton Head. Some posters like one area over another, but as a full time resident who also rents a condo out, I think the best place to stay is what YOU want.
I will give you a sample of some of the good condo rentals available and what they offer.
Forest Beach - Most of the condos are on the ocean. The area is not in a gated community and the beach is fairly crowded. The best places are at the SeaCrest Resort, Shorewood, or Ocean one. The Breakers is an older condo, the units are smaller, but they rent for a lower price.
SeaPines - Beachside Tennis or Turtle Bay club are the top ocean oriented condos. The Plantation Club or Wildwood Spa are both a short walk to the beach. Sea Pines also has two Top Rated Tennis Facilities, and three golf courses including the Harbortown course which is the site of the PGA Heritage tournament. You can find much to do in Harbortown or South Beach
Palmetto Dunes - this is the most ocean oriented resort. Look for rentals at Villamare , Captains Walk, the Hamptons, The Barringtons, and Windsor. A short walk from the beach are the Moorings, Captains Cove, Ocean Cove, Fazio, and Courtside. The resort also has three Golf Courses, and a top rated tennis facility. You can ride the Palmetto Dunes Buggy to Shelter Cove, the Arts Center, The Mall and Restaurants.
ShipYard - This Resort doesn%26#39;t have any condos with direct beach access, but BeachWalk is only a short walk to the beach. Other choices are The Greens, and Evian.
Mid Island - there are three beach oriented condos available, Sea Cloisters, Island Club, and Hilton Head Beach and Tennis. Hilton Head Beach and Tennis has only one bedroom units on the ocean. The other two have other availabilities. There is a restaurant attached to Hilton Head Beach and Tennis.
You can probably rent at the best rate by looking at a VRBO site. the two best are VRBO.Com and Cyberrentals.com. You should be aware that since these are posted by owners that the quality of the rentals may not be as advertised. As a board member of Captains Walk, I know that of our 86 units, not all are kept in what I would consider acceptable shape.
You can also go to a rental company. I would recommend Vacation Company or Island Getaway as good companies to deal with.
Hope this helps.

hilton head vs. kiawah vs. seabrook oceanfrontthanks for your email-very helpful. We also have neighbors that have stayed at windsor, and barrington with good reviews. My only concern is getting a rental from a Mon-sat? (we plan to visit a friend in charlotte over the weekend and he may join us the following weekend?) Had considered the Sanctuary for just a couple days (couldn%26#39;t afford much more), so if you have any more RESORT names I coul dlook into-that way we could maybe just book a few days?
We stayed in a wonderful oceanfront condo on Seabrook Island in August of last year. We found a great deal on vrbo.com for $90/night. The condo was very nice: 1BR/2BA, vaulted ceilings, full kitchen, private deck with a walk-down to the beach. Seabrook is just south of Kiawah. We drove through Kiawah one day, and found that we liked Seabrook better because it was quieter, slower-paced, and had older folks/less kids. Both are equi-distant to Charleston. Enjoy!
Most of the rental units do rent by day%26#39;s except during the summer season.
It shouldn%26#39;t hurt to ask.

If your kids are teenagers, I strongly recommend Sea Pines. They can ride bikes everywhere to be one their own. For oceanfront, I recommend calling the Marriott Monarch at Sea Pines. It%26#39;s a timeshare, but they also rent out units. It%26#39;s on the beach and right next to the Sea Pines Beach Club, a good spot for older kids. Also would recommend the South Beach area in Sea Pines; looks like a small New England fishing village with restaurants and shops. Several different condos on beach as well as duplex rentals at Lands%26#39; End (these face marshy area, but a short walk to swimming beach). Harbour Town in Sea Pines is nice, but marina area, not beach. Look for rentals in Sea Pines on line.
Hi Buckfan,
I am from Sidney, Ohio and we stay at the Marriott Baroney Beach Club. Great kitchens and location. Hope this helps. We will be going there March 5th.
We have stayed at Windsor twice and LOVE it! We have two very young children and it was so convenient to just hop in the elevator and be at the pool or the beach in a few minutes. It%26#39;s across the street from Shelter Cove where we would take the kids to see Shannon Tanner several nights a week, plus there are great restraurants, bars and shops there in Shelter Cover, as well as boats to take out for Dolphin Watching and Fishing, etc. Had a nice time on the Shannon Tanner Kids Cruise and hubby and I went baby shark fishing one evening.
