Need Help Please!!!

I need to know if this has ever happened to you. I booked a reservation for a hotel 9 months ago for this coming May. I received a confirmation number after booking with my credit card. Yesterday I received a letter stating the hotel had overbooked and I no longer had a reservation. This was not for this area, however this is the only forum that I have ever posted on and visited, so I wanted to post here.

This hotel is in SC on a Nascar weekend. The rate I had reservations for was 79.99 for 2 nights. Now, I am looking at over 200.00 a night, since everything is booked up. I need to know what my rights are. Shouldnt they have to honor my reservation or pay for comparable accomadations elsewhere? Please help me. I have filed a formal complaint and they said that they will get back to me by March 2nd. Any advice would be appreciated very much.

I aint never hd this happen so I%26#39;m not sure what they will do. If I were you I would call them every chance that I got until they foud a room at their hotel.

File a complaint with the local Better Business Bureau. If it%26#39;s affiliated with a chain go straight to corporate. Be sure you have documented evidence/proof of your reservation that was cancelled and when the reservation was originally made. Sorry to be a humbug but you%26#39;re most likely out of luck for getting a room from the hotel for this race.

It sounds to me like they gave your room away because they could get a much higher rate. I would DEFINITELY fight it until the end. That is just not right.

I am going to call the General Manager tomorrow and see what he has to say. Their corporate office called and said that if I was not satisfied with what he offered as a solution to call them back. You know, I think you are right....they arent getting the full amount out of me so they sold my room. They have several sister hotels in the same vicinity, so I think that they should give me a room at one of those and pay for it since it is such a price difference. Do you think that this is a reasonable request? I would not even ask for anything if they contacted me a week or 2 after I made the reservations, however 9 months later...its just bull!! LOL So, what do you all think?

It appears that they opened their inventory before they set up restrictions on that weekend. Basically your reservation is valid and they can not cancel it. They have to find a reservation for you if they are overbooked and basically ';walk'; you to the other hotel while they do not charge you the first night as it is their problem - not yours. Make sure to make it their problem and honor your rate and your room If they want to send you to another hotel and pay for it - great. Contact your credit card company as well and talk to them about your reservation.

I would ask for another hotel and would tell them I was going to payh them the same price and let them worry about the difference. It would have been one thing if this would have happened right agter you booked your room.

This does happen-and yes usually for the busiest weekends like this-must be Mother%26#39;s Day weekend in Darlington???

I would tell them I intend to file a complaint w/the BBB if they did not honor the room/rate.

What hotel did this?? I don%26#39;t want to book there.

Another alternative would be to book a room at the beach and drive there. You%26#39;d have more fun in Myrtle Beach and it%26#39;s only a short drive to Darlington.

I know you don%26#39;t want to bad mouth any particular chain or hotel but it would be really helpful if others knew.
