We are considering a week at the beach in June. We are originally from California, living in Texas and we need a beach fix! Our 13 and 11 year old will be in the ocean, catching waves, the whole time. What are the waves like on the South Carolina coast? Is body surfing with boogie boards popular?
We would like to do a beach front villa, condo or house rental and have looked at Kiawah, Hilton Head, Folly among others. We also like to bike and hike and just want to relax?. So here are my questions:
1. Where should we look?
2. Which is the nicest beach with the best waves for body surfing.
3. Is having pool access a must?
4. Reliable rental companies for villas or condos that are beach front or a very short walk.
Thanks for any info you have.

Best Beach Town for Body Surfing
SC does not have waves like CA does, unless you have a tropical storm coming then we might get some decent waves, otherwise, they are minimal.
Best Beach Town for Body Surfing
1. Charleston has lots of very nice beaches, including Folly, Sullivans Island, Isle of Palms, Kiawah or Seabrook Islands, I%26#39;m particularly partial to Kiawah. Kiawah has miles and miles of bike trails and your kids are old enough to give them a bike, cell phone and a map and just check back in, as necessary. There are 3 towers on the island that they could spend some time looking for.
If you%26#39;re interested in marsh kayaking, PM me and I can give you some information.
There are also evening activities for teens which start about 9:00 at Night Heron Park, something to keep in mind (for both things to do and looking for location).
2. As stated above, you won%26#39;t find waves as in CA (grew up out there), but my son was able to take a surfing class at Folly Beach a few years ago (they do surf there) and hubby and I have had fun in our kayaks in the surf there, as well.
3. Depends on your wants and needs.
4. For Kiawah, if you must have a pool, look at the Resort or watch for info when looking at individual units on VRBO, some of them will have pool access. If a pool isn%26#39;t so important then there are several other rental agencies you could consider, but I%26#39;d first go to VRBO, some very good properties there.
Best all-round beach for swimming and (occasional) body surfing: Kiawah Island.

Kiawah%26#39;s beach is south facing, so it does not get the direct Atlantic waves. Do not expect waves like California (or like Cape Cod, where I used to body-surf in my youth); but the beach is great for enjoyment of the water, and it gets full sun all day. If you are truly beach people, you probably do not need a pool on Kiawah.
Best beach for board surfing: Folly Beach.
