Any unsafe areas to walk in???

Hello all! The hubby and I are looking forward to our trip down to your beautiful town in April and I have been reading up on everything that has anything to do with Charleston! :)

I was reading the health and safety section and it points out different areas not to walk in either in the day or night.

We are staying at Holiday Inn on Calhoun St. I noticed it said not to walk much past Calhoun St after dark. We are staying in a safe part of town there arent we?

Typically there arent many problems in the historic district. You could get into some areas you wouldnt want to be in if you walk away back to the north from Holiday Inn Historic...but you would have to go a good ways. I would say that you are good to go 4 or 5 blocks to the north, and really as far as you would care to walk to the south (towards Market St.)

Indeed - stay on Meeting Street if you go south (towards Market).

Perfectly fine to cross Meeting at the park (that%26#39;s called Marion Square) to get to King Street. You can walk a few blocks up King and the whole length down King (south) and rest assured it%26#39;s as safe as any other part of the historic district. If you go out partying at night, before you leave, put a cab%26#39;s number on your cell phone (ask concierge) in case the weather changes or if you just don%26#39;t want to walk.
