Outer Banks or Myrtle Banks in April

We will be driving down from OH to NC to drop my car off for some special work, likely 3rd or 4th week in April. Our two cocker spaniels will be coming along for their first ever vacation. They are 6 %26amp; 3 yrs old.

We are looking for the best place to go for four-five days. Priorities:

- Good place to take dogs for a walk on the beach.

- Relaxing place, not in the thick of things.

- It would be nice to be able to walk to shops or restaurants, but not a requirement.

We are undecided between Outer Bank or Myrtle Beach. Seems as though MB will be 5 degrees warmer, but it doesn%26#39;t matter that much, as it will be too cold in both places to lay on the beach.

Also, if anyone has a recommendation for a place that is either on the beach or near the beach that accepts pets that would be appreciated. Two dogs, 24 lbs. each.

Surfside beach south of MB has a nice Holiday Inn that takes pets.

The two places are very different, some might say opposites. If shops/restaurants/attractions are not a requirement, %26amp; you don%26#39;t want to be ';in the thick of things,'; I%26#39;d pick Outer Banks or another location on the Strand (like Litchfield or Pawley%26#39;s Island).

You may want to consider the restrictions on animals on the Beach in the Myrtle area. I think its something like no doge until after 6 PM or so. Im sure they are available on the city / county website. I cant speak about restrictions on the Outer Banks.

I really like both places but the Outer Banks fits your bill a little better. The Outer Banks towns are very different too. I%26#39;d suggest the Salvo or Avon areas but I love them all.

Here are the restrictions on beach dogs for Myrtle Beach:

Horry Co. laws:

Any animal on the beach must be on a hand-held leash not to exceed six feet in length and under the control of the person having custody of the animal. Animals are not allowed on the beach from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 1-Sept. 1. It is unlawful to ride a horse or other animal on the public beach or within pubic marsh areas within the county limits March 1-Oct. 31.

Myrtle Beach laws:

From May 15 to September 15, dogs are allowed on the beach only before 9:00 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m. Between September 15 and May 15, dogs are allowed on the beach at any time of day. At all times when dogs are allowed on the beach, they must be on a leash that%26#39;s seven feet or shorter, and you must pick up and properly dispose of the droppings.
