We are coming to Charleston for the first time and a little surprised by the high hotel rates for the historic district. We like a nice hotel, but our main concern is where are the good restaurants, lounges, bars etc. located so that we could walk at night versus driving or using a cab. Is the historic district the place to be???
Charleston, Best Hotels for Nightlife and Dining?
Yes, the HD is the place to be, especially if you are in town for only a short visit. If you are going to be in town for a week or so, you might want to rent a house or villa at one of the beaches. The time of year and the local events which are going on at any given time will determine how high the rates go. Hotels for many events in Charleston are booked by visitors a year in advance (Spoleto, Bridge Run, etc.).
Tell us when and how long you%26#39;ll be there and what you plan on spending on accomodations and we%26#39;ll be glad to help you. One of the favorites to start with is the Mills House, nice hotel (you%26#39;d never know it was a Holiday Inn) and nice restaurant, withing walking distance of everything in HD.
Charleston, Best Hotels for Nightlife and Dining?
Hi...our budget was about $150-$225 but it looks like $250 to $300 is more the norm in Charleston. We are coming at end of April. But we would also like to spend a night or two at the beach -- do you have recommendations for a favorite beach area, possibly with biking or other active pursuits available? Thanks!
If you are here for a week, you might consider a weekly beach rental. Sure, it would be ideal to stay in the HD, but you can save some bucks staying in a rental instead of a hotel room if you plan well. Depending on which beach, you could be between 10 and 50 minutes from Charleston%26#39;s HD. The closest beaches are Folly and Sullivan%26#39;s, 5 more minutes and it%26#39;s Isle of Palms, and then for the farthest but still considered ';Charleston area'; are Kiawah %26amp; Seabrook. In a weekly rental you%26#39;ll be giving yourself more room to roam and it%26#39;s really an easy drive into the city from the beaches.
We want to do at least 1 or 2 nights right in Charleston. And it makes sense to stay in historic district if that is where the dining and nightlife is located.
Try Priceline for a hotel in the Historic District of Charleston. My friend and I are staying 5 nights at the Mills House Hotel at the end of March for $100 per night.
How did you get the Priceline rate? Did you put in $100 as your price and then specify what category or was it an actual special at Priceline? Thanks!
Hi Kabahr,
I placed a bid of $100 for a 3 star hotel in the Historic District of Charleston and I was assigned the Mills House Hotel.
If you have never used Priceline before, you should go to this website and learn more about Priceline and how to use it:
www.biddingfortravel.com
When you place your bid you don%26#39;t know which hotel you will get but this website helps narrow it down since you can see what others have bid and what hotels they were assigned to.
I have used Priceline for hotels many times and I have always been happy with the hotel.
Good Luck! Laurie
