Hi. We were in HH 2nd week of November, and we didn%26#39;t see any dolphins in the ocean. We took a boat tour on Broad Creek and would see a handful every once in a while. In other words....not too many.
We will be in HH last week of March...what are the chances of seeing dolphins in the ocean at that time? How about Broad Creek?
Thanks.!!!
Dolphins in MarchI was at the Palmetto Dunes beach this past Sunday and saw dolphins very close to the shore.
Another spot is the beach in Sea Pines near Lands End. Park in the Salty Dog lot and walk across the street to the beach. Every time we walk there we see lots of dolphins.

My reply: We%26#39;ve been to HH more times than I can count, and the only times I%26#39;ve seen dolphins are the times we stayed in Sea Pines, near Lands End.
Wow, both replies had the same location. We will be in the ShipBottom Area but will drive over to the Salty Dog Area. Had dinner there last time (yum!)
We were in Hilton Head the week after Thanksgiving and again the 2nd week in February and saw dolphins both times. We stayed in the Shipyard Plantation both times. We loved watching for the dolphins each time we took a walk on the beach-we saw them nearly every day.
We stayed at Barrington Arms in Palmetto Dunes in November. We saw dolphins there as well.
When I lived in Captains Walk, we saw dolphins just about every morning, except in the summer. I guess the summer bathers kept them further out.
Now I live across the street from the Intercoastal, and Dolphins cruise along daily.

We have been to HH in October and April staying at Sunset Pointe in Shelter Cove and we have seen dolphins every time. We have a teenage daughter who is now ready to start college to study and train dolphins so checking out dolphins is always tops on our list. We have taken a dolphin tour via Outside Hilton Head in Shelter Cove on a 18ft boat in April and got up close and personal with the dolphins, our dolphin lover has also been para sailing in HH near Sea Pines and those of us spotting in the boat have seen dolphins beside the boat while the para sailers saw them from above. We also have been on Schooner Welcome in October sailing from Shelter Cove to the area near Sea Pines and saw dolphins on our sail. We are returning in April and hoping to continue our dolphin seeing streak. Hope this helps you
Other spots for dolphin watching include the Calibogue Sound (I%26#39;ve never been in it and not seen some, always by some type of boat) and Broad Creek.
Last September I kayaked in Broad Creek with dolphins all around me, and watched one hitch a ride with a boat. Seems the older ones know each boat by the motor%26#39;s sound signature and also have an idea for where the boat is going (mostly fishing and shrimping boats that take the same trip every day) and they will literally hitch a ride in the bow wake. It takes minimal effort on their part when they do this, they%26#39;re pretty much riding the wake and it pulls them along. The one that I saw hitch a ride leaped 15+ feet in the air and guide with us exclaimed ';ok, now he%26#39;s just showing off!';.
We were in North Forest Beach the week of Thanksgiving and saw tons of dolphin(several times a day)out in the ocean right in front of our rental house. We even went and rented a kayak to go out into the water with them. Some came rather close to our kayak! Very exciting! We also saw one swimming around the boats and docks outside the Salty Dog. We thought it was a shark at first because of the way it swam and would thrash around. But than we saw the occasional sprays of water coming out of its blow hole and know that sharks don%26#39;t do that!
davsaz: Not to rain on anybody%26#39;s parade but we just returned today from a week in Hilton Head. We stayed in the Forest Beach area, so Coligny was our beach access point. We saw very FEW dolphins from the beach when riding our bikes. We did the parasailing out of Harbortown and my son and I saw ONE dolphin from the parasail. We did the Envirotour dolphin excursion, again out of Harbourtown, we saw very FEW dolphins. We almost got skunked. He had to try many, many locations. All the locations that were listed above at Land%26#39;s End, off of Daufuskie on both sides, we less than 10 and from a great distance in TWO hours. We also did the Schooner Welcome out of Shelter Cove. We travelled up Broad Creek and were on the water for THREE hours, not one single dolphin to be seen. We couldn%26#39;t believe it. We were skunked on that trip. So, it%26#39;s very hard to say when/where/how many dolphins you will see. We did the Commander Zodiac tour last March break and saw dolphins and many, many dolphins everyday while riding the beach on bikes. This week, not so many.
