Trip Report Hilton Head Island June 2-June 14

We spent 2 great weeks at Hilton Head this Year. Our first week was at Players Club. We had the 2 bedroom unit with a loft. Our unit was very nice. We had a king bed in the main bedroom with a huge Whirlpool and a sauna leading off of the bathroom with a shower unit. The upstairs bedroom had 2 twin beds with a full bathroom. Since it was just my wife and I , we only used the downstairs. The upstairs had spiral stairs leading up to it which I thought might be tricky for younger kids or elderly .I was very pleased with Players Club. It was well stocked with everything we needed. Even had shampoo and mouthwash bottles in the bathrooms. The kitchen was very modern with new appliances. The building is older and our unit was upstairs. There is no elevator so I had to load our junk on one cart push it to the stairs , then lug it up another flight to another cart. I would say that was my only complaint. We walked to the beach our first night. We are in our 50%26#39;s . Felt like it was okay without all your beach stuff. What I found out was there is free parking behind the smokehouse resturant. So we drove to coligny beach , parked in the shade and walked just a short distance.Much better. We had great beach weather all week. Walked, slept, relaxed, spent qualty time together and just enjoyed the beach. We had great food to. One Hot Mammas was our favorite. Scott%26#39;s fish market we had great food . Everywhere we ate was great. Friday we did Savannah, Did the ';Paula Deen Tour';. We had a very good time. Our tour guide was Elizabeth She was great. Did not rush us a bit. Stopped at the Byrds cookie store. Got all kinds of free cookies. The tour included lunch at ';uncle Bubbas Oyster House'; We had a buffet lunch in a separate room so it was just our tour group that ate at the time we were there. Great food. Got to meet Uncle Bubba. . The buffet had Low country boil , pulled pork., squash casserole, black-eyed peas, green beans. They brought around each 1 oyster that was suppose to be really good b ut I couldn%26#39;t eat it. Gave it to the tour guide.

This has gotten long so I will send a follow up later. We stayed at Seacrest Surf and Racquet our second week. We own there .

Hi Spindry,

I am looking for some information about Hilton Head. My family and I will be visiting there in July. We own at the Disney Resort. We are looking forward to a day trip or two to Savannah. Do you have any suggestions as to what we should do/see while we are there? I have been wanting to go to Savannah for a long time now, and am excited to finally be going. I just want to see the best things, and after reading reviews about restaurants, I am very confused. I had wanted to go to Paula Deen`s restaurant, but havent read very many good reviews. Any advice you have to offer will be greatly appreciated.

Carol

Hi Carol,

If you are interested in Paula Deen, the tour is really worth the time. I would suggest taking the early tour and make sure you get a tour with a small group. With the early tour, lunch ends up at Uncle Bubbas about 11:30 It is a buffet, but your tour group is the only group at the buffet in a separate room. As far as eating at Paula Deen%26#39;s, unless you take this tour you have to stand in line to get a reservation. And the line is long. When you start the tour you get a Paula Deen lunch cooler with several coupons in it. One is a ';fast pass '; card to Paula Deens. The people on the tour tried calling assoon as possible, but couldn%26#39;t get a eating time until 8:00 that night. Our daughter called a later date for the next day and got a 5:00 time. With the card they just bypassed the line and walked right in.They really liked The food. Everything they had sounded like they really enjoyed going. The coupons we got also had lots of bargains at River street shopping. Lots of shopa and reastuarants on the river. We had a great time there. The parking is a little strange. You park in the lot and put your money in a machine before you leave. One place is worth the stop. River Sweets candies. Coupon from Paula Deen%26#39;s got us an extra pound of Pralines free, and they were good. Hilton Head is a special place . You will have a great time. I hope this helps with your trip.

Uncle Bubbas is run by the Deens.

The Lady and Sons is the name of her restaurant.

Hey Spindry,

Thanks so much for the info! I think the tour sounds like th best idea, being able to eat at both places. I heard the line was bad, but a fastpass is a great idea. If you have any other recommendations while in Hilton Head/Savannah, please feel free to share them with me, I am very excited for our trip!
