Hanging out in HH

We are planning on being on HH the first week of June and probably staying at the Sea Crest or Captain%26#39;s Walk (based on recommendations read on this forum). I%26#39;ve read about tennis centers and golf centers and swimming pools, but is there somewhere a middle aged guy, and his six-year-old son, can just play tennis or basketball for an hour or two a day without annoying the folks who really know what they are doing (we are truly not very good but just enjoy playing together, so I suspect the tennis centers would get annoyed at us)? If we stayed at the Sea Crest or at Captain%26#39;s Walk, does anyone know where we could find a kid friendly tennis court and/or outdoor basketball court close by? Thanks.

Many rentals, including private rentals offer one hour free tennis, so you don%26#39;t need to worry about what the tennis centers think.

You need to go to a park for a basketball hoop. Closest to PD is Chaplin park, going towards Folly field.

the Crossings Park is off Palmetto Bay Road and is the largest park on the island with athletics facilities.

Gosh, based on what I read below, there%26#39;s nothing uniquely compelling that should limit your choice that much. What are your complete criteria for choosing a place to stay?

I%26#39;ll assume you%26#39;re interested in oceanfront villas, there are several in the ';top tier'; that are constantly recommended, with Sea Crest being one in Forest Beach.

In Palmetto Dunes, additional choices are many, including Barringtons, Windsor Place, Windsor Court, Hampton Place, and Villamare.

Check them all out.

There are pubic tennis courts on Cordillo not far from the Pope Ave intersection. They are free 1st come 1st serve basis. There is a also a public sports park (can%26#39;t recall the name) off Arrow Rd, at the corner of Helmsford Way (I think that%26#39;s the name - it%26#39;s the street that goes down to Palmetto Bay Marina).

Thanks to all of you who responded. I googled the park names that Stan provided and found a park map online that listed all the HH parks along with what each park offers (www.hiltonheadislandsc.gov). I%26#39;m still considering SeaCrest based on the reviews I%26#39;ve read here. Shorewood will probably be my backup if I can%26#39;t negotiate a reasonable price at SeaCrest. I started reading this forum last month after we decided to visit HH on vacation this year (to heck with the economy). The information posted by all of you has been a gold mine for us and I thank all of you who take the time to write the reviews and answer the questions.
