We will be in Hilton Head in June for a wedding. Are there any places to stay that have a ';downtown'; historic feel. That is, where we do not need a car to go out and do things, or is the area more develpments and resort properties. If we are looking for something better situated for not having to get into your car, should we opt for Savannah? Any input would be helpful.
downtown historic areas?
If you want an area where you can walk to shops and restaurants, then look to Forest Beach area.
SeaPines is a resort with many amenities. You can take a bus called the trolley anywhere in the plantation. that would allow you to sample the restaurants, and shopping in three areas, as well as going to the beach, golf and tennis.
Harbortown with it%26#39;s signature lighthouse is in SeaPines.
Palmetto Dunes has a similar arrangement with a buggy which will take you to the Shelter Cove area.
Hilton Head Island has a lot of history attached to it, and you can see historical sites all around the island. However It was primarily an agricultural area until development started in the late 1950%26#39;s.
So, there isn%26#39;t an historical area as such. Nearby Bluffton has an old town area which closer to what you are asking about. There are no places in Bluffton%26#39;s old town area that you can stay in.
