We%26#39;re not sure which one to pick. Both get good reviews here, but there are some negative reviews for both. Any thoughts? We%26#39;ll have a rental car and are thinking of the dinner cruise (thanks for recent postings on that! Any vegetarians ever tried it?). I think I read that Harborview was recently remodeled. I%26#39;ve been leaning toward that but want to hear what the experts think.
I hestitate to ask because it will mean more research, but is there another nice historic district hotel that we should consider?
We%26#39;ll be there for two nights midweek in the middle of May
Thanks for any help!
French Quarter Inn or Harborview Inn -- experts please help!I don%26#39;t think you can go wrong with the Harbourview Inn or the French Quarter. FQI is ranked number 1 in the city on here, Harbourview is number 2. French Quarter was a Tripadvisor award winner in 2005 and 2006, Harbourview was an award winner this year. The Harbourview Inn was completely remodeled over a year ago, but the French Quarter has also had a lot of work done. New sinks...granite vanity tops, crown molding, new desks and chairs in the rooms and all new lobby furniture. They are in the process of getting all new armoires with massive flat screen tv%26#39;s, mini fridges, safes, the works, but those may not all be in yet. If I had my choice downtown I would choose one of these 2, which one specifically would depend. The harbor view rooms at the Harbourview have better views than the rooms at the French Quarter.
I havent been on the dinner cruise in years, might not be the best option for vegetarians since their menu is fairly fixed because of their limited space on the boat.
French Quarter Inn or Harborview Inn -- experts please help!JT knows more about the hotels than me.
I went on a dinner cruise with an vegetarian and she asked about it when the menus were brought to the table and they offered suggestions but I cannot remember what they did. She was not vegan. You might ask when you make reservations.
Thanks for the help, guys! I called Spiritline, but they don%26#39;t even book cruises for May until April. At least I know it%26#39;s possible to get something vegetarian. It%26#39;s worth it for my Southern husband to get some of the food he misses!
I%26#39;m still leaning toward the Harbourview (sorry I spelled it wrong before) unless someone tells me I should consider the Market Pavillion. I probably can%26#39;t go wrong with the Hotwire/Priceline idea, but I%26#39;ve never done it. I%26#39;ll read the posts because I%26#39;ve seen a few lately.
I%26#39;ll be back in a month or two with more questions!
THANKS!
My husband and I stayed 4 nights at the Harbour View in 2005. We loved our stay there. The staff was great. The bed was very comfy and turned down each day with chocolates left on it. They had fresh baked cookies and milk every evening. The location was wonderful. We walked to lots of shops and wonderful places to eat as well. We are actually planning a vacation in Charlston again this summer and hope to stay at the HV again.
Hope this helps. Have a great time!!!
Thanks again, everyone!
We booked a Harbourview penthouse room. Since we usually upgrade our room, their website had the best price, and the person on the phone was very nice. This will be a nice anniversary jaunt since we%26#39;ll be driving from Greensboro and seeing family in different cities along the way (Thomasville, Albemarle, Davidson, and Barnwell).
A TIP: They take 10% off with AAA! I was so happy. Made the room be about 340 a night. Figure it will be 450-500 per night with parking, taxes, etc. The savings was nice! :)
Time to go read the posts about active things to do since this vegetarian is going to eat soooo many hush puppies and tons of cheese grits!
bellewannabe17, I%26#39;m betting that you will LOVE the Harbour View Inn. We were there over Christmas 2007, and it was FABULOUS! Both hotels are owned by the same people, and I%26#39;m sure you could not go wrong with either! You are right across from Waterfront Park at the HV, and that is special! We%26#39;re going again in July ... can hardly wait! Have a GREAT time, and be sure to eat at SNOB and Magnolia%26#39;s ... food to make you howl!!! :-)
We stayed at the Harbourview Inn last year and absolutely loved it. Everything was perfect including having breakfast delivered to our room every day. We were there for our anniversary too and they brought to our room a bottle of champagne, a card and a box of truffles. A very nice touch.
