Hi, We are visiting for 2 days this week and am wondering where the closest beach is. My son is touring College of Charleston and I am assuming there is a beach within 10 min or so. Any tips? Also is there public transportation? Thanks
Closest beach to Historic District?
If he is into surfing, Folly is where he will want to go. Most of the college students go to Folly Beach, IOP or Sullivans Island.
There was a big discussion about the various beaches ';Which Beach - So Confused'; about 3/1/09 that you might want to look up here.
There is public transportation. I have never taken the public transportation to the beach so I will not comment on it. The website is www.ridecarta.com
He will love C of C. There are more girls than guys, so THAT can be a good thing, too!

If you only have 2 days, please consider renting a car, you will waste precious time waiting on busses.
There is public transportation, but it is quite a trip to get to the beaches, the closest is more like 20 mins. by car and more like an hour by bus (that would be IOP or Sullivans Island).
Folly is where they surf, my son took a surfing lesson there a couple of years ago, had a ball!
Thanks for your replies. We will have a car. I was inquiring about the public transportation as I am not usre my son will have a car when he is at school. We are driving down from Myrtle. Is it best to check out the beach on our way down?
If you want to spend the majority of your time in the HD, then, yes, check out the beaches on your way into town (Sullivans %26amp; Isle of Palms).
You%26#39;d travel through town to get to Folly.
