We are traveling to Hilton Head for the first time with 20 month old twins and a 3 year old. Thought about renting a house, but only the expensive ones are beachfront. We are looking into condos/villas and would like one that is very child friendly, has the kiddie pool and is literally right on the ocean. I keep hearing Forest Beach area is good because of Coligny Plaza??
child friendly resorts
We usually stay in South Forest beach area now, but our kids are teen age %26amp; above. The most child friendly place we have stayed was The Island Club in the Folly Field area. They have a nice size kiddie pool area %26amp; when we stayed there, they had a staff that offered different crafts, etc for the kids. Yours may be a little on the young side for that though. There were a lot of families there %26amp; it is right on the ocean.
child friendly resorts
The Disney Resort in Shelter Cove is not on the beach but from experience going w/a 4 year old and 9 month old one year, Disney was the place. They have the beach house at the beach in Palmetto Dunes (across from Shelter Cove) which has access to the private beach, nice pool and little restaurant and the pool at Disney has a little kiddie pool and a pool w/a slide. They have cook outs, pool parties, crabbing etc. for the kids. They have a shuttle to take you to the beach or you can drive. Since the kids were little, going over to the beach once or twice was quite enough, they enjoyed the activities and pool at the resort.
Also Villamare in Palmetto Dunes has a kiddie pool but isn%26#39;t child focused like Disney. Good luck!
tripleduty: Another resort to think about is Waterside by Spinnaker. Here%26#39;s a link:

Scroll across the bottom of the pics and you will see the pool, etc. They have the largest aquatic center on the Island. They are two blocks from the beach. Very close. Very close to Coligny Plaza where you can walk to ice cream shops, restaurants, etc.
We are staying there for the first time Mar 7-14, 2009. I will write a full review with pics upon my return. We stayed at Egret Point (a Spinnaker Resort) in Shipyard Plantation last March and LOVED it. So clean, decorated so nice and new.
It is in Forest Beach. I would agree with the posters who suggest Forest Beach area.
Hope this helps,
D in Muskoka.
I agree with the Waterside suggestion. They have three pools there, one sports pool, one zero depth pool and one kiddie spalsh pool. It%26#39;s a very doable walk to the beach if you get a double joggere stroller. As far as restaurants, go earlier. I have really only been in two restaurants there there weren%26#39;t kid friendly. Steamers is great for kids, you can sit outside, bring crackers and your kids can feed the fish in the big pond. Everywhere has highchairs and kids menus just about. We%26#39;ve stayed oceanfront at Beachwood place and loved it, but the pool isn%26#39;t really a kiddie pool. I%26#39;ve steered away from Diney because it%26#39;s so far from the beach. One nice thing about Waterside, is that although there is about a 15 minute walk to the beach, you can stop for ice cream in Coligny on your way home and the kids seemed to love that.
