We%26#39;re thinking of heading to Charleston or Hilton Head for a few days next week with a 6 %26amp; 12 year old..what is there to do, and best place to stay? We were thinking of Myrtle Beach at first, but the weather seems to be better in Charleston!
Charleston with kids
There is tons to do in Charleston w/kids, start w/a carriage ride, they are both old enough for that, then you could try Patriots Point (naval stuff) or take the boat out to Ft. Sumter. There is an aquarium in Charleston and a Children%26#39;s Museum. The waterfront area has park spaces w/swings to take a break and there are lots of family friendly restaurants in the Historic District.
There%26#39;s a few ideas to start with, tell us what you think of those and you%26#39;re sure to get more ideas.
You could stay at one of the beach communities and drive into Charleston for day trips if you wanted to, then you%26#39;d get some beach time, as well.
Charleston with kids
Do a search on this forum for ';trip with kids';. I posted our trip from a year or so ago with my wife and boys, 9 and 12 at the time. It%26#39;s agreat town for kids, especially boys. Carriage ride, Patriots Point, two forts(don%26#39;t forget Fort Moultrie), cannons at the Battery, Aquarium, walk the bridge in the evening, etc. Don%26#39;t know what the Riverdogs schedule is, may be too early, but it%26#39;s a great time too.
We have the Stingrays hockey team and ';The Battery'; if that interests you. Kids like going to the smaller venue games as they feel more a part of the action.
