We will be in the area next August (adults and children)
We are considering the following for renting a house on or near the beach.
North Myrtle beac
Isle of Palms
Foley beach
Kiawaih beach (may have spelled wrong)
any recommendations on which area is nicer?
we want to be able to swim and go to restaurants when needed. We don%26#39;t want to be too desolate or too busy any advice would be much appreciated!!

Myrtle Beach is very busy, and Kiawah is very quiet. In between are Folly Beach and Isle of Palms.
Folly Beach is an old-style beach town, with restaurants and tee shirt shops, and a hodge-podge of various sorts of architecture. Folly is very popular with day trippers, including surfers, from the surrounding area so can be quite crowded on summer weekends.
Isle of Palms is a good compromise, with more restaurants than Kiawah, but not so ';funky'; as Folly Beach. Also, IOP is only about 20 minutes from Charleston or Shem Creek, for more restaurants and activities.
Sounds like Isle of Palms would work for you.

I agree with Villa. Look into condo rentals in Wild Dunes. Try Carolina Coastal Properties, ResortQuest or Island Realty. If you go to www.wilddunes.com they have a very nice interactive map of the community. Obviously off the beach will be less expensive than ocean front. Rates generally drop after 8/15.
thanks,
if one family in%26#39;t sure if they will make it, we want them to be able to hotel it, since they don%26#39;t want to go in on the house rental in case they aren%26#39;t able to come. would both Folly Beach and IOP have hotels they could stay at?
There are hotel accomodations at both beaches. IMHO the options at IOP are better.
