Rainy weather

Well, I%26#39;m headed to Charleston Sun. night and it looks like rainy weather. Is it still worth taking a carriage ride or should I think about a bus tour to get an overview? I%26#39;ll bring an umbrella and won%26#39;t let rain ruin my trip, but just wasn%26#39;t sure about the carriage ride or whether it%26#39;s worth a boat ride in the rain. I was planning on touring Fort Sumter.

Rainy weather

Unless it is a raging downpour, the weather shouldn%26#39;t impact your visit to Ft Sumter. The boat has shelter and a light rain shouldn%26#39;t hamper your enjoyment of the tour. As for a carriage tour, that%26#39;s a decision you can make when it%26#39;s time for the tour. Weather guessers are notoriously inaccurate in forcasting more than a couple of days out.

Rainy weather

Don%26#39;t worry about the rain! I%26#39;ve seen it pour on one side of the street and nothing on the other.

A couple of summers ago, downtown Charleston was literally flooded. Out on SI and KI, not a drop had come down. The inverse can also happen--no rain predicted and a major shower springs up.

Ahhh, wait a moment and the sun comes out:-)

Stick with your original plan.

I watched it rain fall on the condo next door, while I was dry.

I%26#39;ve toured Fort Sumter in the pouring rain and it wasn%26#39;t that bad. It was barely sprinkling when we left Charleston, but by the time we got to the fort, it was raining cats and dogs! Everyone pretty much just sprinted down the gangplank to the fort. The park ranger gave his fort speech in a covered area and when it was over, we all dashed into the museum. That was on my second visit to Fort Sumter and I was kind of glad that it rained, because I didn%26#39;t make it into the museum on my first trip and it was really interesting! At any rate, if I%26#39;d had an umbrella, I would have been fine. I wouldn%26#39;t let the rain change my plans.

Unfortunately we cannot really trust our weather reports. We are influenced by fronts coming from the west and warmth from the south and the natural temperature effects of living at the ocean and near other large bodies of water, and it is tough to predict exactly what happens when those fronts meet here. The morning is the only (I was going to say ';reliable'; but even then...) time to get a good idea of what will happen that day. Prepare for the worst but expect better. (We are currently over 4 inches below normal rainfall, so it seems to be a drier season than normal)
