Isle of Palms in June...thoughts?

Hi there. We are looking to get away for 5 days or so. I found the Wild Dunes Resort on the Isle of Palms. It looks like it may work for us as I can enjoy the beach %26amp; pool and my husband can enjoy the golf. I was thinking we can easily go into Charleston to shop and dine. Any other suggestions? We really want a relaxing vacation- it%26#39;s been a long hard winter in Vermont, stressful jobs and we are expecting our first child in September. Is this a good place to be or do you recommend another location?

I think IOP and Wild Dunes in particular is a good choice. The other options would be Kiawah, Seabrook and Hilton Head though all of those are farther from Charleston. I don%26#39;t know about the ';resort'; but most of the privately owned condos at the northg end if Wild Dunes have minimum stay requirements (week long) starting in June. You may want to look into Mariner%26#39;s Walk, Shipwatch, Summer House, Seaacape or Port O%26#39;Call through one of the property management companies that is not part of Destination Wild Dunes (the resort). You may not get a better deal but you will get a better ocean view. If you Google Wild Dunes rentals you should pull up Carolina Coastal Properties, Resort Quest, Island Realty and others. The Links Course at Wild Dunes 18th hole will have reopened as a par 5 by June. Your husband may also enjoy Dunes West, Charleston National, Rivertowne, and Patriot%26#39;s Point in addition to the Links and Harbor Courses in Wild Dunes. None is more that 20 minutes away. Have a great trip.

Thank you so much for the information. It really looks like a beautiful spot. Any thoughts on traveling there in June? Blue skies and beaming sun?!

June should be ideal beach weather. The humidity is not a big issue. Officially it is the beginning of hurricane season, but major storms that early are extremely rare. I think you can expect more sunshine that rain though afternoon ';pop-up'; showers are fairly common. I don%26#39;t get down much in the summer since my condo is usually rented, but when there is an opportunity to go I prefer June to early July over late July and August. The Charleston area is a great destination with all the history, beautiful architecture and outstanding restaurants, and IOP is (IMHO) the best place to base a visit.
