Best driving route from Canada?

Ottawa is about 2 hours from picking up 81S and thinking of heading to Chambersburg PA area for overnight as appears to be about 1/2 way to NMB.

Looking for route on second day that will get me there in 8ish hours avoiding heavily built up traffic areas such as Washington. On map looks like picking up 95S at some point and then 40S might work but never having been there welcome suggestions from others who drive there.

Also welcome affordable, clean, no frills places to stay suggestions at 1/2 way point on way there.

Best driving route from Canada?

Thanks - postings confirm best for me I think to stay on 81S to I-64 and then following routings to MB as per other posters.

I%26#39;ve been using 81 to 64s for the past few years on my way down to NMB from Upstate NY.

The traffic is generally pretty light %26amp; I%26#39;ve never hit a backup like I have with other routes.

When you get down near Richmond on 64 you can take 288 to bypass downtown Richmond.

Thanks - assuming from 288 you then get on 95S and traffic lighter on 95 S of Richmond. Wondering if I am right about that?

Yes, 288 joins 95s just south of Richmond.

Traffic does seem to be a bit lighter South of Richmond. My experience has been that it%26#39;s heaviest around DC.

I would definatly take 40 off of 95s down to Wilmington and over to 17.

If you have the time and are interested in Historical homes, Thomas Jefferson%26#39;s Monticello is right next to 64 near Charlottesville.

Thanks - one more question re 64 and Richmond. After MB and before returning to Canada will spend a few days on Outer Banks and notice there seems to be a ring road around Richmond. Travelling from OBX on 64 to continue on to 81N wondering if you are familiar with how that works ie if I stay on 64 will it get me to other side of Richmond or does the ring road have a different number?

If you are stopping at Chambersburg there is a Country Inn and suites there which is less then a year old and very nice. I stayed there in November and the room was $71.00 and immaculate. Indoor pool, and breakfast included.

Thanks - I had narrowed it down to there given the great reviews and CAA discount puts it in the affordable range for me. Finding it hard to access their website for some reason.
